I like to think of it as an investment in yourself.
This may be the start of a journey of greater self-awareness and personal growth that will provide long lasting positive life changes. Here are some common questions and answers to help you understand the process of therapy and what your investment in yourself will bring you.
What can I expect?
Therapy can help you achieve understanding and self-awareness of the problems that have kept you feeling stuck for a long time. I will work collaboratively with you to help you gain a sense of control over the things that are holding you back from living an authentic life and reaching your highest potential. Often fear is stopping us and all it takes is a step in the right direction.
How long will it take?
The answer depends mostly on the problems that you want to address in your therapy. Some problems respond very well to a shorter course of therapy such as 4-8 sessions, “I want to be able to work on setting and keeping boundaries with a coworker, boss or family member.” Or “I want to learn a better communication style with my children.” A problem such as this may very well be handled in a few sessions. Problems that are more generalized such as, “I am so unhappy and have no idea how to change this”, may take a longer period of time to overcome these challenges.
How long is a therapy session?
Typically, individual and couples sessions are 50 minutes long. In a couples session it may be beneficial for the session to be up to 90 minutes long. Goals for the sessions are mutually agreed upon. Where will my sessions take place? I have comfortable and conveniently located offices in Oakville. The office is easily accessible from major highways with ample parking. It is also easily accessible by public transit. The office provides a safe and confidential environment for our sessions to take place.
What are the costs involved?
Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions about my fees, fee schedule or insurance coverage. Fees are due at the end of each session by cash or cheque or prior to the session by e-transfer. My practice is supervised by a Clinical Psychologist which make my fees eligible to be covered fully or in part by many extended health benefits insurance policies. Please contact your insurance provider for more information. Counselling services are not covered by O.H.I.P.
What to expect in the first session?
The first session allows you to feel if this is right for you with no commitment. It also lets you see if I provide the kind energy and therapeutic style in the session that you feel comfortable working through your problem with me alone or as a couple. It gives me time to understand what your specific needs are and to share my thoughts on how best I can help. There is no commitment for you at this point other than establishing whether or not you feel you want to continue based on what you have discovered in this first meeting.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require 24 hours notice to cancel a scheduled appointment.
